Third Party Fire and Theft offers more of a comfort level over Third Party Only insurance. While this level of cover still fails to cover your own car and belongings in the event of an incident, it will insure your car and its belongings in the case of theft or fire.
Much of the same pitfalls still apply to third party, fire and theft cover as they do with third party only, the difference literally being the fact you will be compensated in incidents of fire and theft. Ironically though, this can be the most expensive kind of insurance to acquire. Insurers look at this kind of insurance as drivers with lower value vehicles but high value belongings inside thus increasing the cost of any compensation paid per claim.
You are still able to build a no claims bonus with third party, fire and theft insurance. It is also possible to bundle in certain other extra’s such as windscreen repair and roadside assistance, so it is possible to build a suitable policy with this kind of cover.
The only major difference between Third Party, Fire and Theft cover and Third Party only cover is literally the “Fire” and “Theft” part. For the most part the pitfalls remain the same, there is just the added benefit of fire and theft cover.
As with third party only insurance your own vehilce or its contents are not covered in the event of an incident that is not fire or theft. If you are unfortunate enough to be involved in a road traffic accident that results in damage to your vehicle, or worse the writing-off of your vehicle then third party fire and theft insurance will not cover the costs of repairing or replacing your vehicle. As with third party only insurance we recommend that you are confident that you third party fire and theft is the appropriate level of cover for you.
